Open source graphics software has come a long way in recent years.  Blender 3d has been a quality 3d suite for some time and gimp has really cleaned up its interface recently.  In the print side of things programs like Inkscape has become pretty tight and Scribus, the page layout program, is really becoming a usable solution.
